Transforming students into better learners, thinkers, and doers with:

Learning strategies that work for every student.

Improv physicalizes learning so that spatial, kinesthetic, and interpersonal learners can all interact with the material using a method that works for them.  It’s also a great way for students with special needs to benefit from classroom teaching in new and exciting ways.

Because “Yes, and…” is the basis of improvisation, we encourage and develop student perspectives rather than countering unique ways of thinking with “No” responses. When the classroom vocabulary changes from “no” to “yes, and,” we inspire young people to be themselves they feel more freedom to dream big dreams.

A flexible curriculum that includes Social-Emotional Learning.

All of our curriculum is a built with trauma-informed practices. Our programs builds core Social-Emotional strengths through our activities which help students develop in: listening skills, self esteem, awareness of others, leadership, self-awareness, self-management, empathy, positive risk taking, decision-making, relationship, and social skills. Improv and theatrical exercises often have therapeutic benefits with Social-Emotional Learning objectives.

The benefits of Social-Emotional Learning:

Exciting exercises that encourage social change and impact.

We believe in facilitating culturally responsive learning strategies to empower students through the arts. During our process, we: explore self-identity and improvise scenes based on the issues young people face every day so that students can practice making healthy, positive choices in the real world.

Our programs can culminate in the students sharing their “stories” through the medium of an original play or scenes created out of improv. They create social change with their own voices, tackling challenging themes by exploring, writing, and dramatically portraying solutions that work.

A safe space where where taking positive risks and making mistakes is okay.

Middle and High School students face fear of judgement every day. Yet without the confidence to explore outside of their comfort zones they often can’t become the high achievers you hope them to be.

Improv It Up teaches young people to honor their instincts, work as an ensemble, and realize that life’s mistakes are always opportunities to make different positive choices. Our activities foster confidence and empathy through self-discovery because we firmly believe that self-expression builds healing and that honoring who you are leads to life-changing transformation.

Through these processes, we facilitate healthy identity development and a strong sense of belonging in the classroom, school, and the world.

Professional development for teachers and administrators.
